More Court Time for Members!

You spoke and we listened.

In order to allow more court time for members, we will have a strict no guest policy in effect until the end of the Winter 2017/2018 season.

Let me know if you have any questions.

See you tonight!

Changing Colour Designation

Hi Team,

Here are the rules to changing colour designation.  Please be aware that this is the first year we are implementing this process and it is subject to change.

– Challenger plays up to 3 games with different people (9 others) of the colour s/he is applying for.  For example, if a blue player wishes to become red, s/he will play up to 3 games with 9 different red players – 3 different players per game)
– Challenger must win 2 out of 3 games
– Members may challenge twice per season
– Each game must be overseen by at least one executive member
We kindly ask that at least one game night advance notice is given should you want to challenge.
Let me know if you have any questions.  See you all tonight.

Rules and Expectations

We’ve been asked to resend this information. We’ll huddle about it tonight.

The the Milton Badminton Club has three colour assignments of blue, red and yellow.

The purpose of the colouring system is to facilitate more balanced and competitive games.

The colours represent a player’s current abilities rather than his/her potential.

The colours hold no prestige and are NOT to be used as a status symbol.

New members are assigned the BLUE colour.

When a name reaches the top of the “Queue”, it is that member’s turn to pick. Please DO NOT pick on behalf of someone else.
When picking a game, a member must select 3 additional players from the top 10 players in the queue (not from “Wait 1”, “Wait 2” or “Wait 3” as those players have already been selected).

Pick balanced games and aim for having an even number of colours (e.g., 4 blue players, 4 red players, 2 red players and 2 blue players).

If a player is picked but would rather wait for a different game, that player’s name falls to the bottom of the queue and forfeits his/her “picking” turn.

If you notice someone not following these rules, you can let one of the execs know. That person will be reminded that of the rules to the board system. Otherwise, you may remind them kindly of these expectations.

All our members are good people! Please show courtesy and respect on the court. Don’t forget that we are all here to have fun!
Only ‘pick’ a game if your name is at the top of the queue. DO NOT pick for someone else.

“Wait 1” and “Wait 2” should be filled at all possible times to ensure as much play time as possible. Due to our limited facility time, please pick games quickly to avoid leaving any court(s) unattended.

Please forward any questions or concerns to Leanne or Vinu.

December Updates

Special shout out to Carl Chan for taking the time to photograph our club.  The pictures turned out great!  When you see him, show your thanks with high fives, fist and/or chest bumps and “Hey, you’re swell!” comments.  He’d be more than appreciative!  These photos have been posted on our website.  Thanks so much Carl!  If there is a photo that you’d rather just keep for your personal collection rather than on our site, not a problem!  Let me know!  I’m happy to remove it on request.

There will be no badminton on Dec. 26 or Dec. 28 due to holidays.  To see our calendar, visit

Happy Holidays and a Happy 2018 to you and your families!

Badminton Updates

Hi Team,

We’ve been getting many questions in the club about the below mentioned issues.  We’ll huddle next Tuesday to further address this items.

Winter Membership:  We are not taking new members at this time as membership is currently full.  Should membership open in the future, the public will be notified via our website and email to our followers.

Guest Policy: Guests are welcome to join us for play so long as there are 6 or less members waiting.  This is put in place to maximize court time for members.  Guests will be asked to leave should the wait line exceed 7 players.

Shuttles: Membership fees are set to accommodate the return to Yonnex birds.  We aim for approximately 1 new bird, per court, per night.  New birds can be retrieved from Vinu, Saki, Wendy or Leanne.

Please be courteous of others and DO NOT remove birds from the court or place them in pockets for play later in the night.  Should a member be found removing birds or pocketing them, membership will be revoked.  This will be strictly enforced.  Should members bring their own birds, please initial or mark them on the inside in order to distinguish personal birds from club birds.  Please address any questions about this directly to me (Leanne).

THE BOARD SYSTEM – please follow these simple rules and be courteous to others

  1. When a name reaches the top of the “Queue”, it is that member’s turn to pick.  Please DO NOT pick on behalf of someone else.
  2. When picking a game, a member must select 3 additional players from the top 10-15 players in the queue.
  3. Pick balanced games (e.g., 4 blue players, 4 red players, 2 red players and 2 blue players).
  4. If a player is picked but would rather wait for a different game, that player’s name falls to the bottom of the queue.

  1. All our members are good people!  Please show courtesy and respect on the court.  Don’t forget that we are all here to have fun!
  2. Only ‘pick’ a game if your name is at the top of the queue.  DO NOT pick for someone else.
  3. “Wait 1” and “Wait 2” should be filled at all possible times to ensure as much play time as possible.  Due to our limited facility time, please pick games quickly to avoid leaving any court(s) unattended.  Try to avoid picking someone who just played with there are other members waiting.

Should you have any questions, please leave a comment on this post or email us using the Contact Us form found here:

Colour System and Time Change

Last night was a great start to the season!  It was nice to see some old faces and welcome all the new ones!

Just a few updates:

Colour System:  We are taking this opportunity to advise you that we have changed the color system associated with the levels at the club.  There will be no self selection possible at this time.  If you feel that you are in a group that is either too strong or too weak for you then please advise one of the executives in writing via the “Contact Us” form found at  There will be an opportunity for addressing these requests if required.   A method for doing so will be provided at a later date.

Time Change:  Our play time is being shifted to run from 8:30 – 10:30We have made it clear we are not agreeable to this change; however, the City has permits in the gym until 8:00 and now require a half hour to set us up.  This comes into effect beginning October 10, 2017 (next week).

Should you have questions, please leave a comment below or visit our Contact Us page.

Winter 2017-18

Hi All,

Our Winter session begins October 3, 2017.  We are very excited about the new season and going back to our Yonex 300s!

Blackout dates for the season can be found at  Note that this calendar can be synced with your gmail account.

Guests are permitted to join as long as there are no less than 6 people waiting.  This was done in order to give our current members more court time!

If you have any questions, please add a comment to this post and I’ll respond to it as soon as I can.
